I did my first mud run! Rugged Maniac was the first mud run I completed. A lot of people from my CrossFit box do mud runs and they always talk about how awesome it is. I had to experience it for myself.
It was pretty cool for the first time. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. My goal was to get as muddy as possible. I realized that after being covered in mud, its a little tough to keep running. After mile one, I pretty much walked the rest. The obstacles weren’t as bad as I thought. My favorite was the Shoe Catcher. The mud wasn’t super thick but there were a lot of drop offs. I fell into one and almost went under.
There were some obstacles that just weren’t possible for me. The Ringer and Full Tilt needed grip strength. I figured that wouldn’t be a problem because I am a crossfitter. I didn’t realize that because my hands are muddy they would just slip off. Needless to say, I fell right off.
It took me about an hour and a half to complete. Because this was my first one, it was just for fun. Next up is the Savage Race in October, which I heard is a tough one. I cant wait because I love a good challenge.
Who is doing a mud run next?
Rugged Maniacs are a fun starter mud run. Check out Terrain Racing as well, both are fun races, and not as intense at the Spartan races.

I love Spartans, I still have 4 more this year and a bunch of various other mud runs.
In a month, I’ll be doing my first Beast, and the rest are all Sprints.
